LUCIEN DAVID LOISELLE

December 8, 1940 – March 14, 2026

C’est le cœur lourd que nous vous annonçons le décès de notre bien-aimé père et pepère, Lucien David Loiselle, qui nous a quittés subitement le 14 mars 2026, dans sa résidence. Un grand ami de la francophonie, Lucien était une personne extraordinaire qui illuminait le cœur des gens avec son sourire contagieux.

Il a été prédécédé par Lucienne Beaudry-Loiselle, l’amour de sa vie, en 2023, de son père Alphonse, de sa mère Anne-Marie (née Comeault) et de sa sœur Rose-Marie. Il laisse dans le deuil trois fils : Michel (Karine Beaudette), Richard (Anie Cloutier), Robert (Katherine Styrchak); ses dix petits-enfants Alix (Peter Paley), Patrick (Theresa Isbister), Zacharie (Miranda Black), Rosalie (Jérémy Laniel), Jean-Luc (Natasha Rey), Julien Beaudette-Loiselle (Geneviève Couture), Paule Cloutier (Reid Kotschorek), Axelle (Joshua Bérubé), Nastassja (Riel Fontaine) et Zoé Cloutier; et ses six arrière-petits-enfants Xavier, Edda, Lilyanne, Augustin, Joséphine et Adrien. Il laisse aussi plusieurs beaux-frères et belles-sœurs, ainsi que des amis proches qu’il considérait comme de la famille, et bon nombre de neveux et nièces.

Né le 8 décembre 1940 à Morris, Lucien a vécu sa première année à Letellier. La famille a déménagé à Transcona l’année suivante, puis à Saint-Boniface en 1949. Il a rencontré sa très chère Lucienne en 1958 et, moins de 5 ans plus tard, le 15 avril 1963, le jeune couple s’est marié dans la cathédrale-basilique de Saint-Boniface. De leur union sont nés successivement Michel, Richard et Robert.

D’abord enseignant à l’école Précieux-Sang, au Collège Louis Riel et au Collège secondaire de Saint-Boniface, Lucien a aussi été directeur adjoint du CSSB pendant près de dix ans. Il a touché la vie d’un grand nombre d’élèves pendant cette période. En 1982, il a changé de cap et s’est joint au Commissariat aux langues officielles où il a travaillé jusqu’en 1999.

Mais si le nom de Lucien Loiselle est bien connu dans la communauté, c’est grâce à son énorme travail associatif et politique pour la communauté franco-manitobaine. Il faisait partie du groupe qui, dès 1963, a revendiqué pour la création du Centre culturel de Saint-Boniface, incorporé en 1966 et devenu le Centre culturel franco-manitobain en 1974 et dont Lucien a été président.

Il a par ailleurs été membre du comité fondateur de Folklorama et fondateur/coordonnateur du premier Pavillon canadien-français, directeur général de l’Ensemble folklorique de la Rivière-Rouge, voyageur officiel pour le Festival du Voyageur, membre fondateur de l’Ordre des voyageurs officiels, président de l’Association des scouts du Manitoba, cofondateur de Folklore Canada International dont il a été le président pendant 20 ans, président de la section canadienne du Conseil international des organisations de festivals de folklore et d'arts traditionnels (CIOFF), ainsi que représentant de l’Amérique du Nord au conseil d’administration du CIOFF, président de la Fédération culturelle canadienne-française, président de l’Association des résidents du nord de Saint-Boniface et membre du conseil d’Habitat Chez-soi, entre autres engagements dans des organismes locaux, nationaux et internationaux. Son militantisme et son dévouement, et celui de Lucienne, étaient sans bornes pour leur communauté. Pour tout leur travail pendant 40 ans, ce « power couple » de la francophonie a reçu le prix Louis Riel en 1997.

Born on December 8, 1940, in Morris, Lucien spent his first year in Letellier. The family moved to Transcona the following year, then to Saint Boniface in 1949. He met his beloved Lucienne in 1958, and less than five years later, on April 15, 1963, the young couple married in the Cathedral-Basilica of St. Boniface. From their union came Michel, Richard, and Robert.



Lucien began his teaching career at Précieux-Sang School, Louis Riel College and Saint-Boniface High School, and also served as assistant principal at CSSB for nearly ten years. He touched the lives of many students during this time. In 1982, he changed course and joined the Office of the Commissioner of Official Languages, where he worked until 1999.

Lucien Loiselle is a well-known name in the Francophone community of Manitoba, thanks to his tremendous community and political work. He was part of committees, as chair or participant, of multiple committees and organizations which founded core Franco-Manitoban institutions and promoted French-speaking Manitoba at the local, national and international level. His activism and dedication—and that of Lucienne—were boundless. For all their work over 40 years, this “power couple” of the Francophone community received the Louis Riel Award in 1997.

Since Lucien’s retirement in 1999, he and Lucienne traveled extensively across the country in their motorhome, often taking their grandchildren with them east or west. They also spent a few winters in Arizona. Lucien also volunteered at the Centre du Patrimoine to organize his personal archives and those of his loved ones.

But it was at the family cottage near Lake Beresford in Nopiming Provincial Park that Lucien was happiest. This place offered him a peaceful retreat in nature with his family. Accompanied by Lucienne and their sons, Lucien led the little group on canoeing adventures in the park. Later, they also took their grandchildren there. Part of the family heritage since 1960, the log cabin was rebuilt in 1984 following a forest fire. Lucien and Lucienne will certainly be present in spirit during the next reconstruction of the cabin, which was lost in the great fire of 2025 in Nopiming Park.

A lover of travel and nature, Lucien was a grandfather who generously gave of his time, a quiet strength, an inexhaustible source of wisdom and memories carefully preserved in his exceptional memory, and a passionate advocate for his French-speaking community. Gifted with excellent people skills, Lucien had a knack for making friends quickly and under any circumstances.

According to Lucien’s wishes, there will be a private service, followed by cremation. A public celebration of his life will be held at the Centre culturel franco-manitobain, which he helped to establish, on March 31, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
